In the Style of Lewis Hine and the Empire State Building

This is the group photograph taken by students from my Thursday night class who based their images on one by the American photographer Lewis Hine. Lewis Hine took a series of photographs illustrating workmen on the construction of the Empire State building. Here the students adapted their image to portray the construction of a fictitious building over the City of Manchester, even down to the construction of the steel girder (made of wood).

Photo debate - Gregory Crewdson

The new photography debate for members of the Lindow Photographic Group revolves around the work of American photographer Gregory Crewdson. Best known for his photographs, which feature elaborately staged, surreal tableaus of suburban life, it is these 'tableaus' that we shall consider and discuss through this blog. To start the discussion I'd like to pose the questions 'what type of photography is this? Is it fine art, figurative, landscape or is it a genre all of its own?' 'What is the difference between the way he creates his work and that of a still from a film?' And lastly 'what do the images communicate to you and where is he drawing his influences from?' Photographing TV presenter Clare Nasir for the MEN

The latest addition of the MEN's 'Home' publication is out and all the photography was produced by Weston Digital Imaging & Media. Clare was great to work with and incredibly welcoming. The photographs were taken to a tight brief over the allotted two hours and delivered the next day. Shooting live to a tablet throughout the shoot means the client is able to approve everything before the shoot closes.
