'All that Glitters. Portraits of Drag Artists' coming to the Wilmslow Art Trail.

All That Glitters

Wilmslow residents and visitors will be amongst the first to view “All That Glitters – Portraits of Drag Artists” when the photographic exhibition opens as part of the Wilmslow Art Trail on October 13th-15th.

The new body of work sees award winning photographer Richard Weston explore the lives and individual stories behind the glitz and glamour of professional drag artists.

It’s a deeply personal project for the local photographer, whose image “Portrait of My Son”, (capturing a moment of connection between him and his son, Samuel, dressed as his alter ego “Candy Fierce”), won the coveted National Open Art competition last year.

The new exhibition captures the back stage transformation from hoodie clad lads to on-stage divas.

The experience of working with the performers so engaged Richard that the final shoot of the project saw him undergo his own metamorphosis, becoming “Sugar Fury” at the skilled hands of son, Samuel.

Commenting on the results of the intricate make up and preparation routine, which took three hours and gave an insight into the demanding levels of professionalism and hard work of the artists, Richard said:

“To see this stranger looking back at me, and trying to reconcile the image with the me inside, made me think deeply about how we see ourselves and how we judge - and in turn are judged - on our appearance and looks”

The exhibition opens at Rise cafe, Wilmslow on October 13th. For more information, visit www.westondigitalimaging.co.uk
